A Knife Gate Valve is a linear motion valve primarily designed for on-off service in systems containing slurries, suspended solids, and viscous liquids. Unlike traditional gate valves with a blunt gate, it features a thin, beveled-edge gate that resembles a knife, hence the name. This sharp edge allows the gate to slice through thick media, ensuring a tight seal even when solids are present.
In volumetric applications, the Knife Edge Gate Valve’s ability to fully open and close with minimal obstruction contributes to accurate flow measurement. Unlike other valve types that may create turbulence or pockets where material can accumulate, the unobstructed flow path of a Knife Edge Gate Valve helps ensure that the measured volume accurately reflects the actual material being transferred. This reliability is paramount in processes requiring precise batching, blending, or dosing based on volumetric data.
